The Rating System

On this blog, I will be rating songs out of 10. The maximum score that a song may attain is thus a 10 (though this will hardly ever be awarded) and the lowest is officially 0, though I may use even lower numbers in RAGE at times. Essentially, how songs are rated is briefly described as follows:

Songs that are graded with a ‘.5’, such as 7.5 or 5.5 basically fall in between the two categories in question. (I think that was pretty obvious.)

Note that because 5.0 is considered an average score, be prepared for scores that may seem low. A score of say, 6.0, is NOT a bad thing at all (unless, of course, the song is a massively overhyped one). As a general note, though, songs rated on this blog WILL have a mean score of greater than 5.0. This is because of two main factors:

  • Reviews of songs that were not released as singles. Typically, I’ll tend to make comments on only those that were good – such as B.o.B’s Cold as Ice or Jason Derulo’s Blind. If I listen to a track on an album that wasn’t so good, usually I won’t review it here. Singles, on the other hand, are fair game.
  • Reviews of older songs. Generally, I’ll be more likely to review old songs (such as I did with Ne-Yo’s So Sick) if they were at least decent. Thus, expect years prior to 2010 to have mainly above average songs only.
